Note: To date only three children have been found for this marriage, the last in October 1700. The Parish register records the burial of a Margaret Graves on 29 October 1700 but says she was the daughter of Thomas Graves. Normally this would be assumed to be the daughter born in 1697, however there is a later marriage of a Thomas Graves shown as a widower. There is, therefore, the distinct possibility that it was the wife of Thomas Graves who was buried in 1700.

Some of the Parish Registers in East Kent have gaps between 1642 and 1662. Births and marriages of this generation falling in that period are consequently lost. The only possibility for bridging the gap is if the baptism and wedding of the parents occur just after 1662 and the baptism of the parents was therefore 1642 or earlier.

676. Arthur Hayward, born circa 1660; buried at Elmstead, Ashford, Kent on 29 June 1716. The name has various spellings, including HAWARD, HAYWOOD, HEYWARD and HEYWOOD. He married 677. Mary Newman at Chartham on 30 September 1683
Note: Possibly a son of Arthur (spelt Artor) and Mary Hayward or George and Mary Haywood, both Petham families, who had children baptised in 1669-70. Arthur/Artor Hayward was buried in Petham on 4 January 1667-68. However the best candidate on current evidence is an Aurthur Hayward, son of Aurthur and Elizabeth Hayward who is baptised at Kingston, near Canterbury, on 1 November 1657. This same Aurthur and Elizabeth Hayward have two other children baptised in Kingston, Elisabeth Haiward on 21 November 1655 and Ann Hayward on 24 June 1662.
